Historic Dhaka

May 22, 2015

Long overdue. Last June I went on a random two week trip back to the motherland – Bangladesh. I felt this sudden need to get out of Philly and everything going on here, and luckily my family was heading over to Bangladesh. My dad happily booked me a ticket (which reminds me that I owe him for that trip still haha), and I spent two weeks reconnecting with family, attending a cousin’s wedding, and disconnecting from the internet (kinda). I did take a bunch of photos, naturally.

These photos below are from a Hindu shrine we visited with my mom’s good friend, Shika Aunty, who was visiting us from Kolkata. She used to live in the Chicago area with us when I was growing up, so it was awesome seeing her again after so many years! She really is the sweetest aunty ever.

Afterwards, we went to Lalbagh Fort, which is this “incomplete 17th century Mughal fort complex that stands proudly before the Buriganga River in the southwestern part of Dhaka.” Pretty cool to see something so historic and touristy in Bangladesh. The architecture of these buildings was also pretty epic. Hope you enjoy the pics!

  • I was in Dhaka this past February on an exchange and was absolutely amazed at the vibrancy of the city! I wish I’d had a chance to see this beautiful shrine and the fort – you’re right, the architecture is incredible!

How cool! Yeah it’s typically just overcrowded and dirty, but Laalbag was so gorgeous and refreshing to see!

  • Accurate future photo of me in Italy at the end of this month. Currently trying to figure out a what to do, eat and see for the 8 days I'm there and it's so overwhelming. Also nervous that I may fall in love with the country too much and not come back. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Anyway, send me recs for Rome - Sorrento - Venice! #romanholiday
