I think I got my sense of adventure from my mom. Apparently she was a wild child back in her tiny village in Bangladesh. Getting in tons of trouble, climbing trees like a monkey, etc. It’s no wonder I got this sense of mischief in me.
Back in 2014, mi madre wanted to go to Paris thanks to a Sex and the City episode. It was such an amazing trip. I mean it was Paris! Fast forward to summer sixteen and my mom mentions taking another mother/daughter trip. SIGN ME UP! I asked what her budget was and knew that somewhere in the Caribbean/Central America was our best bet. Insert Tulum. I’ve been hearing so many great things about Tulum, so I figured it would be a nice, relaxing trip to take with my mom. And I was correct.
We landed in Cancun and went straight to Tulum via the Ado bus. It took us about a little less than three hours because we stopped at Playa Del Carmen, but we made it and we were hungry! Taco diet was the game plan for the next seven days!
After we filled our stomachs, we headed towards our AirBnB. I’ll tell ya, living right in the town is a lot better than staying in resorts in my opinion. You get such an authentic experience, meet the locals and really see the town or city for what it is. The AirBnB we got was great and the hosts were so helpful via WhatsApp. They also had bikes for guests, so I took a long ass, 10 mile bike ride one evening. I ended up biking to where all the beaches and resorts are, and treated myself to happy hour (aka two for one margaritas) and fish tacos at Mateos, which is apparently the best place to get fish tacos (they were pretty good, but the mango margaritas were the show stopper).
We did do some sightseeing, visiting the local Tulum ruins and spending some time at the beach. Nothing extravagant or outrageous. Honestly, it was so hot and sunny most of the trip that we stayed indoors – me on my laptop clearing out my inbox and my mom using my phone and wifi to watch Bengali shows. I did have a good time with my mom and I’m glad we got to spend a week from reality. Thanks mom for the trip – te amo!
Here are all the pics from Tulum – enjoy!
